When my girls were younger, maybe 8 and 10, a neighbor told us about this concept called yes day (also a book). The premise: kids get to do whatever they want for a single day (nothing dangerous or illegal) and parents must go along with their requests. Of course, our kids were on board with the concept so we agreed to try it on a weekend with a budget of $20 per child.
I had a 'yes year' last year, the first year after my husband died in 2022. I've extended the concept, even getting a tiny wrist tattoo that says "say yes." For me, 'say yes' means being open to new experiences, going new places, not overthinking when an opportunity to attend a concert or take a trip comes up. It means helping others when I can, and it also means saying yes to me by saying no to requests that impinge on my time and energy. My adult children and grandchildren say Mom/Grandma is living her best life. And I am.
My now 9 year old daughter had a yes day last year and she spent the whole day watching T.V.
My husband and I are going away for a weekend in less than 2 weeks, he has booked us into a fancy hotel and dinner at a Michelin star restaurant. We are also going to get a massage as the hotel has a spa. So I guess I'm getting a YES weekend!
I will soon begin 3 month short term disability, mainly to calm myself while living with a catastrophic illness. A "Yes Day" sounds like just what II need. Thank you for this concept. I'm going to spend a little time thinking about what that might look like. Sometimes dreaming and planning is even better than the actual thing.
LOOOOOVE this!!! On my Yes Day, I want to wake up in a swanky hotel room to breakfast in bed, tour a cute town and then hit a spa for a while and get a massage, come back to the room and get squished between my 18-year old & husband, cuddled up to watch a movie before reading a book for a couple of hours before bed.

This is so beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing. xoxo
I'd be happy with a yes day that I don't have to think about what to cook...cook...or clean up - oh or walk the dog!
Love it!
Yes to this! Then afterwards, I would know want I want to do.

Sounds DREAMY!
I'm pretty sure I had my yes day yesterday watching The Guilded Age and ordering dinner home, barely getting out of my PJ:s 😊
Delightful! x

Your Yes Day ideas are dreamy!
My Yes Day
- read a book in a quiet corner
- eat chocolate cake in a quaint cafe
- go vintage shopping in a small town
- eat ice cream and sit on a bench in a nice park
Love love this idea!
