Oh, this is awesome! Last year I invested in 2 pairs of Darn Tough crew socks for the fall/winter. They have a LIFETIME guarantee and they are 100% wool and very warm and moisture-wicking. Perfect to wear with boots.
I love Darn Tough socks! Did you know that they recommend wearing them several times before washing? I wear them for hours of hiking everyday and they don’t smell, it’s amazing. I’ve been washing them (inside out) after 3-4 wears with no issues.
I get really stinky feet (🤣) so mine smell after 1-2 wears but this is a good reminder! I definitely try to follow laundering instructions to make my stuff last longer in general. My kids think it’s funny that the DT socks keep the shape of my feet after I take them off. Haha!
I second (or third?) Darn Tough socks!!! I bought a couple pairs and just threw out literally ALL my other socks because they sucked in comparison. Now I get to wear socks I LOVE every time :)
You inspired me! My new socks came today, and I feel lighter already, without socks to match up. Did you see Anne Kadet writing about her uniform? An extension of this idea.
I am a minimalist in most things but I'm a sock maximalist. I tend to layer socks during the winter, so that's 2 pairs (and the outer pair gets pretty stretched out making it difficult for rewearing) and another pair for sleeping. Clearly the answer is slippers but I've never found a pair that keeps my feet warm, doesn't stretch, etc.
I'm also an underpants maximalist, I've got nighttime undies and daytime undies.
I do really like the Bombas no show socks! I to have converted to Bombas for more casual socks however I found their more fancy(?) socks to be ill fitting and inconsistently sized. I also have their wool knee high socks for winter and like them as well but Darn tough is slightly better in this space(probably not something you need in the Bay Area though)
I wear the heck out of my socks as my feet are perpetually cold, even in the summer, so I tend to nearly always need to replace 1-2 at a time, yet most socks are bundles of 3+! So what's girl to do? Also, living in New England, we have spring/summer socks (lighter athletic and no-show socks) and fall/winter socks (think tights, cozy wool, alpaca, and fleece-lined as well as the heavier athletic socks!), so my sock drawer goes through a rotation with the rest of my clothes, leaving tons of space in the warmer months, and a bit more packed in the colder months as those heavier, longer socks take up more room. A little piece of joy in this rotation, however: I always look forward to putting away the heavy socks in the spring, as well as taking them back out in the fall. :-)
Darn Tough socks are fabulous and great for winters here in Chicago. I have also been happy with my Bombas socks as well. I have not tried their no-show, but have put them on the list!
I have been all about Bombas for years. Its policy of donating a pair of socks to someone in need for every pair purchased drew me in; their quality has kept me coming back. I particularly like the low-cut no shows as Bombas are the only brand that doesn’t slip off my heel. True confession: I do have some mismatches. Shira, you’ve motivated me to take stock and order some new socks!
I like Bombas crew socks and no shows, but their athletic ones that a short but not totally no show slip off my heel every time and it drives me insane. (Also I like Bombas underwear!)

I wear funky design compression knee socks so out of the loop on trends, but i inspired a sock fetish in my cardiologist. My job there is done.
Hysterical!

Did you see Corinne Fay’s piece on underwear, on Burnt Toast?
No, another great rec I need to check out!
I tossed all of my socks and have 7 pairs of Darn Toughs. Game changer!
