In December 2020, my sister, our mom & I bought or made small gifts for each other over a 12-day period because we knew we wouldn't be able to spend Christmas together. We alternated days (e.g. I gave my mom & sis gifts on days 1, 4, 7 and 10) and usually gave both recipients the same gift, with slight variations. Gift themes included baked goods, secondhand books, small beauty items, White Elephant-type presents, etc. The day's gift giver would leave the presents on the doorsteps of the other two, and if the weather was nice we could have socially distanced conversations. It was a nice way to feel connected when we couldn't be together. We did that out of necessity for 2 years, but after Covid died down and we could safely gather again we found that we wanted to continue the 12 days of Christmas tradition. It forces us to get creative, to find tiny things we can give that don't cost much or take up much space.
Thank you for all the great ideas. Would like to try the mascara but no straightforward way to opt out of cookies on the site. Do you have an alternative link? I’d like you to get credit for the purchase.
Thank you! Some of these might even work for my impossible to shop for parents! Now that we know climate legislation is not coming to save us, I’m trying to get more serious about limiting my own contributions to climate change—this list has great ideas!
You've got lots of great ideas! We are gifting high quality balsamic vinegar we can't ever find in stores. I also keep thinking about gifting baggu reusable shopping bags. I gifted those in a favorite things gift exchange 4 years ago and am still obsessed with them. I'm asking for arctic snow boots and a day at the ski hill!
Excellent recomendations. I am a big fan of getting museum or if it's for younger kids, zoo or aquarium, yearly passes. My daughter got an aquarium pass when she was 3 and we used it so much, just amazing, so much fun and she learnt so much! I also like the idea of the get it done day, i think that it would be especially great for parents with small kids or older people that might have mobility issues. I am currently recovering from a fractured tibia and there are lots of things that I can't do, my poor husband has been working overtime as he has taken on a lot of my daily chores, he is getting it all done.
