I love this!! I had already chosen the word EASE for 2025 so your list absolutely jumped out at me lol — looking forward to implementing some of these other suggestions too. Happy holidays!!

Thank you for this! This feels doable! I like having resolutions throughout the year as there are many times it feels like a new year, such as my birthday, the start of the summer when school's out, the start of school in the fall, and then 1/1.

My mom loves Gretchen Rubin and her approach to NY resolutions, but each year you're adding ANOTHER thing to the list and while I've tried to do it with my mom this year to encourage us both, it's a lot. For those who don't know her, this year it's "24 for 2024," so next year it'll be "25 for 2025." Ahhh! I couldn't even think of 24 things, and then when I did it just felt like a long to do list. While there are things on there that NEED to be done (and I do like Gretchen's idea of having dedicated time for the things that don't have a specific due date, such as "organize digital photos,"), I got overwhelmed with it this year and totally abandoned it for feeling like a failure. I'm working on thinking about what, even IF, I want to do for this year, and this list helps!

Ted Lasso if you haven't watched that (we just started-I know, we're late to the party), and I am enjoying the Disclaimer miniseries with Cate Blanchett (everything she does is well done, IMHO).

So glad this list feels more encouraging and doable! I cannot even imagine trying to juggle 25 different goals - but I'm a minimalist ;)

Just wanted to say that I’ve been savoring your new book for the past few nights. It’s quite wise and inspiring and soothing all at once. These resolution alternatives are great, too. Thank you!

Love these ideas. Over the years, I realized that I really came to dislike resolutions, particularly if they were made to achieve some kind of societal judgement, like losing weight etc. And invariably, they ended up making me feel disappointed so I simply stopped making them and felt much better about the new year. I especially like your "Stop Doing List". It feels like a freeing permission slip and much truer to oneself.

Right - for some reason resolutions feel inherently critical - I prefer things that feel positive and additive! x

I LOVE the 10 alternatives to resolutions! Thank you. Recently someone asked me why a was pursuing a goal. It was weird that I didn’t know. My reason was just the goal. I think sometimes that works but I realized I didn’t have a lot of guiding values around my goals. This list is so refreshing and I’m going to try a few of them instead of resolutions this year.
