This was the week I got a flat tire on the middle of the Bay Bridge, Emilie injured her knee, and I developed a mysterious rash on my face. When it comes to managing stress (especially over the things I can’t control), making my environment feel good has always been the first method I’ve turned to. Today I’m sharing 5 mini mood boosters for your home you can implement any time you feel off balance.
Spruce Your Surfaces
Piles of papers, laundry, or random household items seldom boost anyone’s spirits. Focus on clearing the surfaces you see every day - your nightstand, kitchen counters, and dining room table are common clutter hot spots. If you don’t have the bandwidth to process the piles, simply consolidate them into one area for review. This way you can enjoy clean and clear surfaces ASAP.
Try a Quickie Clean
It takes me less than fifteen minutes to wipe down our counters with an all-purpose cleaner and give our home a quick vacuum - one of the many benefits of living in a small space. If you have a larger home, throw open the windows and give a single room a quick refresh. Dust bunnies, begone!
Make Your Bed
To me there is nothing like a freshly made bed, complete with clean sheets and fluffed pillows. I top it off with a spritz of this lavender mist from the beautiful Los Poblanos resort in New Mexico (where I host my annual retreat).
Light a Candle
Engaging your senses at home is a great way to reset your mood. When I transition from work mode to family time each day, I like to light a candle and turn on some music. I keep a few natural beeswax votives on hand for our dining room, and I like to splurge on one fancy candle at a time for our living room. This one from Jenni Kayne makes me feel like I’m at a spa.
Bring the Outside In
Fresh florals and greenery are one of my favorite little luxuries for the home. I try to buy a bunch or two every few weeks from our local floral shop or the incredible San Francisco Flower Market. I’m not good at keeping plants alive, but potted plants or garden clippings can have the same effect.
I’m curious: have any low-lift mood boosters to share? Please post in the comments!
