My alternative to one common sock is simply mismatched socks that looks ok together in a big unmatched mess. Works, still has a little creativity, and drives people who prefer plain things crazy. Pro-tip, when someone mentions your mismatched socks you reply "I have another pair just like them at home".

As an aside, how does the single wardrobe item idea free you from decisions? I can't appreciate how picking a shirt adds weight, please help me understand.

Ha! Love throwing people off with your mismatched socks. Not sure I understand your question, but if it's about the daily uniform hack, the idea is that "formula dressing" eliminates decision fatigue because you essentially wear a version of the same thing every day. x

Fun post! Is there a link to what you wore in LA?

Personally having all the same underwear feels like a life hack to me! Also, having exactly one formal outfit situation has saved me a ton of energy- I borrowed the idea from you, so thank you for that!

Love that! I've been wearing the exact same simple black dress to every single wedding and event for almost 20 years! x

I've incorporated 5, 4, and 3 into my daily life. I happen to love fun socks and since mine are compression socks, wearing functional plain black is depressing. I'm all for wild color. My socks have a reputation at the cardiologist's office. As for uniform? I love fashion entirely too much to embrace a uniform. My dress is part of my personality. I take great care. It's part of my morning joy. But to each her own. Whatever makes one feel good throughout the day, do that.

For food storage I use an array of Weck Jars and Vtopmart containers. The Weck is a little expensive if you must buy, say, two dozen, but the Vtopmart was easy on my budget.

I love that your socks have a reputation at the cardiologist's office! I too love fashion, and believe that a daily uniform can still reflect your fun, unique, and individual style - your uniform could consist of a boldly patterned dress and colorful sneakers, for example. The idea is to fully embrace your own style, while simplifying getting dressed. x

I get that and appreciate that many experience decision fatigue when adding daily wardrobe to their endless stream of things to get through in the day. I think of my godson with 3 month old twins, starting a new career simultaneously. I'm sure the last thing he wants to do is stare in his closet for more than 1 minute. He's taken cues from Obama wearing the same suit everyday. For me, however, staring at my carefully curated closet is part of the fun. I love having multiple options. Is it warm enough to wear a sleeveless dress or chilly enough for Canadian Tuxedo? Which blouse do I feel like wearing with this skirt? Or maybe a light sweater. Mules or canvas boots today, or perhaps cobalt blue sneakers? Riffling through my closets is the best part of my morning sans the first cup of coffee (decaf though it is). I totally understand that many people don't see the joy in that. Our shared goal, after all, is to simplify our daily lives. I admit to failing in this particular area.

My mind is blown that both her and her husbands feet fit in toddler socks!

Also, nooooo I cannot load my silverware like that. When my husband accidentally does, they stack together and don't get clean. Ahhhh lol.

HA! They share larger socks and no longer have toddlers ;)

Just want to say I am digging this bite-sized newsletter that still feels packed with ideas. And the cock "which they store, unfolded, in a single basket by the front door?" My mind is also blown. Not sure we could get down to just one for the whole family, but it is an intriguing concept.

Yay! It is intriguing. I'm starting small by treating myself to the same socks - no need to sort or match! x
