Adding a ceiling fan to the vaulted ceiling in my living room. What a HUGE difference, not just for comfort but in the way it looks!
And the other was adding lighting to the underside of the bookshelves in the same room. Photo here: https://djmcneer.substack.com/p/to-guilt-or-not-to-guilt (And I'm truly not trying to drive traffic, I'm just SO happy with the shelf lights!)
This is amazing! And since you mentioned the tea ;) I had to tell you I threw out my flavored creamers that I wasn't using and no longer fits my signature at home tea or coffee! I wasn't even using it but heaven forbid I throw it out until it expires. Such freedom and more room in my refrigerator!
My home changes every month or two right now, so tiny upgrades are everything. I buy one good candle (beeswax if I can find it), claim hooks for my jacket/bag/dog leash, and set up two trays — one in the kitchen (olive oil, butter, salt, pepper) and one in the bathroom for my daily go-tos. It's a fast-track to avoiding counter chaos and feeling right at home.
Daveed Diggs had a story done on him during pandemic times and they have this toile in a room and a fabulous jungle print and I bought the same jungle one and love all the papers this company has! ❤️❤️
LOVE it! Such a great idea to have a pop of bold pattern or color in a smaller space to make it fun. I took the doors off the cabinets of one side of our galley kitchens' upper cabinets and its made our rental kitchen feel so much nicer!
We have just renovation our bedroom. We could not get good warderobes in properly and we had too much stuff for the one small warderobe that had been there since the 50s. We took down the brick wall between the kitchen and the bedroom. Put a new wall 40 cm into the kitchen and that together with a smaller bed made our bedroom feel so spacious and with a whole wall with warderobes and big drawers under the bed I have so much space for my stuff. I just loove it! Now the builder is doing our kitchen and with 40 cm less I have a feeling we won’t notice that it shrunk a little! 🫶🏻
I bought it from a hardware store for $5! Just a ceramic flush mount that you can screw a nice lightbulb into - they have them at most hardware stores! xx
I can't or ever will be as good, yet I try and try. Anyhow, we recently upgraded this walk-in closet by adding modular bits inside; it is tidier now, a space to walk in and pause at. Yet, it is not ours, so we may be told to move since we don't own it.
And yes, the wallpaper is lovely, a pause effect for stopping in. Nicely done!
The wallpaper is SO fun! I have a friend with a powder room in her Toronto house with amazing mushroom wallpaper. The drama in the small space is fantastic. Our house has two baths, but both have a shower or tub, so I don't think we can really do wallpaper. But I love it!
Some day I'm hoping to do a full new kitchen, but with 3 young-ish kids I'm not ready to live through the chaos that it would be. So I've chipped away at little improvements, like a cool framed print or a custom roman shade in a great pattern. For now, it adds cheery personality to the room, and makes me happy!
I'm SO into a high-impact upgrade in that < or ~$1000 range. A real remodel isn't in our budget right now (maybe ever?) but last year we spend several hundred dollars buying and installing a garbage disposal and it enhanced my life so much I would have written about it in our family Christmas card, had I sent one. I had the same euphoric life-upgrade feeling when we paid a carpenter to install custom cabinets in a small empty space in my kitchen. Love this! (and I recognize that wallpaper from the restaurant Fiorella in SF!)
That wallpaper is so great!
Isn't it fun!? xx
I love that Too $hort made the wallpaper!! Amazing.
SO fun! xx
We've moved many times and the powder room in each home has always been my favorite room to decorate with something unique and bold.
Love that! I don't know why it took me so long to crack the code! xx

Ooh thanks for sharing! xx
I have a friend in Texas who had bright blue and pink Texas State Fair wallpaper in their half-bath. It totally transformed the space!

Ooh love that - we also removed our kitchen cabinets to create open shelving. xx
Your photos in Minimalista was actually my inspiration!!

Love this so much! Would you be able to share the source for the light you installed as well please?
