And Now, This - A Simple Habit to Transform Your Day
Lately, I’ve been hearing from so many people who are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or just off. If that sounds like you, know that you are far from alone.
I want to share a deceptively simple habit that has made a huge difference in my life. It’s quick, easy, and has the power to completely shift the tone of your day.
Here’s What To Do:
Grab a notebook, a sticky note, or even the back of an old receipt.
Write down one tiny thing that would make today great.
That’s it. Just one thing.
Here are a few examples straight from my journal:
Treat myself to an iced matcha and mochi muffin from Third Culture Bakery.
Show up for a CorePower Yoga class (free classes here!).
Plan an ice cream sundae date with my daughter, Emilie.
Curl up and read an actual book
Why This Works
This tiny habit may seem insignificant, but it’s rooted in powerful principles:
It presumes success. Writing down what would make today great shifts your mindset to expect good things.
It helps you prioritize joy. It pushes you to focus on something you actually enjoy and make space for it in your day.
It builds self-trust. Repeating this practice reinforces the belief that you can set and achieve goals, even tiny ones, strengthening your confidence and your relationship with yourself.
Your Turn
What’s one thing—no matter how small—that would make today just a little brighter? Write it down right now and see how it feels to carry that intention into your day.
Need inspiration? Consider a favorite treat, a walk outside to soak up some sunshine or fresh air, calling a friend just to say hi, or spending even fifteen minutes curled up with a good book.
Let’s make today great, one small step at a time. Use the comments to let me know what tiny treat you choose for the day ahead.
Also, This: Some Black Friday Shopping Alternatives
This Friday I’m taking Chloe to my favorite yoga class followed by lunch, a hike, and movie night with the whole family. Here are some other Black Friday alternatives if you want to avoid the crowds:
Watch Buy Now: The Shopping Conspiracy on Netflix
Try my favorite yoga class - all classes are free on Black Friday!
Take a walk, go for a hike, or just get some fresh air.
Catch up with an old friend over coffee.
Make something, bake something, or dive into a creative project.
Fix something, mend something, return something.
Declutter your fridge, wallet, or junk drawer.
Plan a no-spend day and use what you already have for meals, entertainment, and fun.
Volunteer at a local food bank, shelter, or just pick up trash or tend to a community garden in your neighborhood.
Host a swap party: Invite friends to trade gently used clothes, books, or household items instead of buying new.
Support your small independent retailers (typically quite sleepy on Black Friday because everyone is hitting the big box stores).
New Podcast Interview: I was thrilled to be a return guest on the Jen Marples show to talk about intentionality, boundaries, and lowering the bar on purpose. Listen here.
The Best Clutter-Free Gift: this olive oil set is SO CHIC. Check it Out.
Winter Lip Remedy: this $16 hydrating lip treatment is my new girlfriend gift - fragrance free, vegan, feels, all the things.

My family has been observing Slack Friday for about 15 years now. We stay home all day, usually in our jammies, and buy absolutely nothing (not even online). We talk, eat Thanksgiving leftovers, read, watch a movie, nap, and just generally be lazy & cozy. There may also be day drinking. It's our favorite family tradition.
