My Sunday Reset Ritual
I can’t tell you why, but Sundays have always felt a bit melancholy for me. Perhaps it’s because I hate endings, or maybe it’s just that transitional feeling—the weekend coming to a close but not yet the start of a fresh week. In any event, a few years ago I made the decision that Sunday would be my “taking care of business day.” I’ve learned that a few hours of prep work on Sunday is the difference between a smooth week and a chaotic one filled with “Wait—I thought you were picking the kids up” / “What are we doing for dinner?” / “Why do we have nothing to pack for lunches?”
Here’s my routine:
Deal With Laundry
Jordan and the girls handle their own laundry as needed, but I’ve claimed Sunday as my day. Even with workout clothes, I can usually get away with one load per week. I toss it in first thing so I can flip it when I get back from grocery shopping.
Clean Out the Fridge & Meal Plan
I’m on a mission to eliminate food waste, so before I shop, I scan the fridge for anything we can use for meal planning and compost the rest—typically scallions. (Jordan, if you’re reading this, please stop buying so many scallions!) We’re lucky to have municipal composting, so most of our food scraps go straight into our green bin. After the clean out I wipe down all of the shelves and rearrange everything that’s left so it makes logical sense and unloading groceries later can be a breeze.
Restock Groceries
Jordan does pretty much all of the cooking in our family, but he shuns lists, opting instead to go down every aisle in the store to see what speaks to him, so I like to handle the grocery shopping. Before I head out, we spend five minutes outlining five simple suppers for the week and he tells me what he needs. I also restock the essentials: milk, eggs, cereal, snacks, and select an assortment of fresh produce for the week. I prefer shopping in person (The hunt for the crispest, sweetest grapes requires tasting!) and we’re lucky to have an incredible market near our home with the most insane seasonal produce.
Schedule My Weekly Workouts
If I don’t schedule my workouts, they 100% slip through the cracks. So now, every Sunday, I look at my local studio schedule and sign up for four classes. I always go to yoga on Saturday and Sunday mornings, then squeeze in two more around my work schedule—typically one early morning and one evening class. I also just joined an accountability text thread where everyone shares their weekly workout plan each Sunday—hugely motivating for me!
Restock My Vitamin & Pill Case
I have a weekly pill case I adore (made by a small family-run company!), and I restock it each Sunday so I’m set for the week. It only takes about three minutes and also cues me to reorder when meds or vitamins are low. I also restock sunscreen (in this compact + leakproof container) so I always have some on hand throughout my day.
The Family Check-In
Wrangling all my people into the same place at the same time is nearly impossible these days, which is exactly why I insist on a 15-minute Sunday night check-in. This is when we review the upcoming week and nail down all the rides, comings and goings, needs and wants and logistics. On the odd week when we miss or skip this meeting everything is guaranteed to be chaotic.
Confirm Upcoming Meetings
The last thing I do before bed on Sunday is take a peek at my week’s schedule so I can confirm any upcoming meetings, appointments, or events. This typically takes less than five minutes and ensures that I can start my week present and distraction-free.
Bonus: While we try to eat dinner together most nights, I also schedule one dedicated family event (cozy movie night, ice cream date) and one proper date or at least quality time with Jordan each week.
Yes, my Sundays can feel like a never-ending chore-fest, but committing to this reset routine means the rest of the week feels incredibly smooth, and I don’t have to think about dreaded tasks like meal planning or laundry. For me, it’s totally worth it.

Love this! I do something similar but divide it into two parts - the first is a Friday afternoon review of what did and did not get done for the past week (within a larger set of reflections on the week) and transferring the undone tasks or new follow-ups onto a draft list that will be used on Sunday to plan the following week. While doing that I also capture any ideas that come up so I don’t forget. And I do the Sat - Fri meal plan because here in Paris, the butcher, fish shop, and veg shop are only open for the morning on Sunday and butcher and fish shop are closed on Mondays so I have to do my early week shopping on Saturday if I want to be able to have a leisurely Sunday morning.
I have a special Sunday beauty routine so I can start the week off feeling pampered. I do a full body exfoliation with scrubby gloves in the shower and use my favorite body wash, followed by a hyaluronic acid body serum (more hydrating and less sticky than body lotion). After that I pluck stray hairs and do a whitening treatment on my teeth. On Sunday evening I use an overnight glycolic acid facial treatment and do a mini manicure (cuticles & shaping, followed by a nail strengthening hand cream. I may not feel ready for the week come Monday morning, but at least my skin is bright & smooth and I don't have to worry about rogue chin hairs.
