The Only 5 Things I'm Adding to My Fall/Winter Capsule Wardrobe
Essential fall pieces for a minimalist closet
My capsule wardrobe has been basically composed of jeans and white blouses for the past decade, and I'm feeling ready to carefully invest in a few intentional pieces as we move into fall (the best season IMO!!).
The goal: thoughtfully elevate and refresh my daily uniform without overshopping—I'm pretty happy with my current style but ready for some strategic upgrades. Here's what I'm eyeing / buying as I wait impatiently for fall leaves and crisp air (currently 90 and sunny).
A Classic Trench
I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect everyday trench for years. Especially since my wardrobe is so casual, a trench feels like a timeless essential that will elevate any outfit, any season. This one is my top pick.
An Updated Flat
I threw in the towel on heels many years ago, but may have leaned a little too heavily into sneaker life. I'm ready to find a middle ground - anyone else? I love supporting local female-founded brand Freda Salvador and contemplating these cute moccasins or handwoven ballet flats in black or tan.

An Oversized Sweater
I only own two sweaters and rarely wear either. Jordan has a nubby oatmeal J. Crew sweater he bought second-hand that I’ve loved for years, and after careful consideration he’s decided we can share it - victory!
A Trouser Pant
Occasionally I have to speak on a panel or attend an event where denim is not appropriate. Since I prefer pants over skirts or dresses, thinking a slouchy trouser-style pant could be just the ticket. These look cute and my BFF loves them but I’m taking all the recs before I splurge!
Silk Tie-Neck Blouse
Again, I'm trying to step up my wildly casual wardrobe, and I love the mix of a chic silk blouse with old vintage Levis. I found one I liked on Ebay for $19 using the search term “silk tie-neck blouse” and also really like this one.

I don't wear jeans, but most folks prefer to wear jeans. I would love to go on a shopping spree, but I have no dough. Were I to: jeans, loafers, boots, duck boots, trench coat, dresses for everyday wearing, a puff coat, several tops, a good winter jacket; all things light in color; basically, I need a wardrobe overhaul, unsure if this reads right. I am poor and could use a donation of clothing, how's that?
For your pants, I'd take a look at some Eileen Fisher options. Built for longevity and they will take them back when you're done with them, and make sure they're renewed & recycled.
