In the words of my therapist friends, I’m feeling a bit dysregulated. California is on fire. Mark Zuckerberg seems to have stopped believing in fact-checking. And I just had to Google the word oligarch.
When the world feels this chaotic, I turn to small, grounding practices. Here are a few of my favorites—each one simple, actionable, and instantly mood boosting.
Something Kind for Someone Else
Send a voice note to a friend you haven’t talked to in a while. Drop off a little gift—a candle, fresh bread, or homemade cookies—for your neighbors. Leave an absolutely ridiculous tip for the barista who always remembers your order. A small act of kindness can shift your perspective and brighten someone else’s day.
Spruce Up Your Space
Clean your nightstand until it feels like a tiny sanctuary. Toss the expired condiments in your fridge (you know the ones). Declutter the toiletries that are slowly taking over your bathroom counter. Or finally drop off those donation bags that have been haunting your entryway. Even five minutes of tidying can feel transformative.
A Long Walk with a Great Soundtrack
When the day feels heavy, I head outside. Fresh air, movement, and a playlist I love (or a podcast that feels like a conversation with friends) always seem to clear my head.
A Book and a Treat
Is there anything more indulgent than reading at a café with a warm latte and a perfectly flaky croissant? Channel your inner Parisian (or your actual one, if you’re lucky) and carve out an hour to lose yourself in a good book.
Set the Table
Why save the pretty things for “special occasions”? Lay out the nice napkins, pour water and lemon slices into a carafe, and light a candle just because.
I’d love to know—what are your favorite grounding rituals or tiny, simple pleasures? Share them in the comments; I’m always looking for new ideas, and you might just inspire someone else.

Thanks for these great reminders. Another favorite of mine: wash your sheets/refresh your bedding, get in bed early and get an excellent night of sleep.
I also am feeling dsyregulated lately. Yesterday I stayed away from the news and read your newest book Life Styled because it makes me feel good! I can never get enough of Chrissy Hunters old apartment! I’ve also committed to buying books from the bookstore and avoiding Amazon as much as possible. Thank you for the reminder 💙
