I'm Scheduling a Day to Lie in Bed and do Nothing
TV marathons and takeout feels like a good idea
How is everyone holding up? I spent last week hosting a goal setting retreat for fifteen ambitious women from across the country (and Canada!). The weather was spectacular, my brother made the most beautiful food, and the whole thing felt like a little slice of magic. Stay tuned for more creative retreats coming next year!

After the retreat I hosted multiple houseguests, went to the Mill Valley Film festival, attended my high school reunion, and sold half my closet at The Bank Street Flea. It was all wonderful and also I am exhausted.
Yesterday, I told Jordan I desperately wanted a day to lie in bed in my PJs and rewatch every season of Succession. “Put it on the calendar” he replied without missing a beat. As someone who’s notoriously terrible at rest, scheduling a day to do nothing feels uncomfortable but also kind of thrilling. Here’s how I’m making it happen:
Schedule Your Nothing Day
Waiting for the “right time” typically means things never happen. My schedule is packed right now between work and travel and kid commitments, but I did find a solitary Sunday free from all obligations. My kids are teens now so it’s become much easier to sneak away, but even if you can only carve out a few hours of nothingness, it’s better than nothing at all.
Create Your Nothing Plan
Jordan lovingly refers to me as the Queen of the Arrival Fallacy because I’m guilty of telling myself “as soon as I finish X, I’ll relax”—again and again, ad infinitum. For this reason, I’ve carefully planned my do-nothing day - a lovely blend of various indulgences and guilty pleasures:
7:30am: Favorite yoga class prior to total lethargy
9:00am: Shower and begin my TV marathon
12:00pm: Order takeout for lunch from my bed.
1:00pm: Read in bed. Maybe a brief nap?
2:00pm: TV marathon continues.
4:00pm: Ice cream break. Straight from the container like a person with no rules. Maybe with hot fudge.
4:30pm: More TV!
6:00pm: Emerge from my cocoon, fully relaxed and ready to rejoin society.
Prep for Your Big Day
Make sure time-sensitive projects are handled beforehand. Turn on your out-of-office, silence notifications, hide your phone, stock up on your favorite treats, and arrange childcare or pet care if necessary. The goal is to enjoy your day without stress or distractions. You can do it. You deserve it. Go, go, go!

In the UK this concept is called a duvet day 😀 some companies even give you official days to take throughout the year - they are different to holiday/PTO days.
A beautifully scheduled nothing day is my kind of relaxation 🫶🏼
