I love your writing! So clean and clear. I'd love to hear your ideas for setting up a first post-college apartment, where budget is a big consideration, and yet you are inspired by beautiful, simple things. Thank you!
These are all great ideas for when I’m in a style rut. And, it reminded me to do the mini capsule! I’ve also chosen seven items for the week (three tops, three bottoms, and one wild card that maybe I don’t typically wear that forces me to fold that item into my everyday or get rid of it!), and I love the challenge! Thanks!
I have never tried a formal clothing swop, but I have been known to drop off things at my moms and to bring stuff home. I have also altered a few items which have been a sucess, I currently have a loose fitting dress that I want to have altered, but have not gotten around to goint to a dressmaker. I have never tried a capsule wardrobe, but it's like going on holiday and having very little luggage allowance, you have to really think about what you are taking and make sure that it all works together. I stick to white, blue and black , but I have learnt the hard way that white pants and public transport is not a great idea.
Wow!! So fabulous!! I would also suggest Tibi’s book, which has a plethora of ideas/, imagination. The Creative Pragmatist. Westman’s makeup is the best though expensive, all you have to do is read her mission statement.
And I STILL wish to God you were here in Manhattan!!!
I use the MyIndyx app, and build monthly virtual capsules. I have tried-and-true pieces that carry over every month, but it lets me rotate some of the more unique pieces in my wardrobe. Since it's virtual, nothing in my closet is truly off-limits, but it gives me a base to start with.
Love this, Shira! This season I’m leaning into my best colors (did a lil’ DIY color analysis!) and it’s brought out a whole new level of style, creativity and actual FUN in getting dressed — all from pieces I already own. 🤍
Fun post!! Recently I brought my favorite Everlane tshirt (great sleeve cut) to my local alterations place with 3 band tshirts that I wasn't ever wearing (boxy sleeves!) and said "make these sleeves like the sleeves on this shirt" and she did and I can wear them all the time now! It felt frou frou to pay someone to do this but $45 to actually want to wear the clothes I already own instead of having some never-gonna-happen "project" on my plate was money well spent.
Also, you've inspired me to go through my clothes and see what can be cropped. I have bought a couple cropped sweatshirts I wear all the time recently, maybe cropping an older sweatshirt or button up will help me get it back in circulation!!
I also cut the neck out of a sweatshirt a while back to make it off-shoulder, it's kind of a sloppy look but sometimes I can handle sloppy, I could never really handle the dork vibes I was giving off with the tight neck.
Such great ideas - the 3-3-3 actually method feels like it can bring endless options! And a huge congrats on selling out your retreats... how exciting!! I'm hoping dates align for the next one 🥰
As always, love this and every time I read your stuff, I wish we lived closer. I feel like we'd just be laughing and having a ball being minimal, frugal gals for days. TY for mentioning the book in your upcoming reads, too (and for reading it). Mwah!

Great article. Am going to try the 3-3-3 method, might use
it to go on a 4 day trip away! Love the Life Styled book, arrived yesterday😊
